So we need to define "reality".  and "the actual start of QSO".  JTAlert pre
2.9.0 would have used the CQ or Tx 1 message time as the 1st observation of the
QSO.
Given a standard QSO what's the "start"?
0 - CQ W9MDB EM491 - W9MDB G4WJS IO912 - G4WJS W9MDB -013 - W9MDB G4WJS R-014 -
G4WJS W9MDB RRR5 - W9MDB G4WJS 736 - G4WJS W9MDB 73 (optional)
Is is 0, 1, 2, or 3?  And does it depend on which side of the QSO you're on?
Right now you should see #0 as the time_on based on you clicking #2 or #3 and
either #5 or #6 as the time_off
Do you have a log example that shows that's not working? de Mike W9MDB

How do you do the simulation?
The TIME_ON defaults to the logging time only when it hasn't been set yet.
Currently only done when Tx 2 or 3 is clicked by either Next or Now. Are you
simulating without clicking?  That might 'splain it.
Hi Mike, two instances of WSJT-X connected by a digital audio loop back. One
with call A and one with call B. Both call using "CALL-A CALL-B" or "CALL-B
CALL-A" as appropriate on alternate periods. I actually started one somewhat
later than the other as is to be expected sometimes. Eventually I simulate A
see a message from B (or vice versa) after a few periods by double clicking a
decoded message. Some time later I do the same at the other instance. Repeat
until both have sent and received 73 messages. All replies are delayed a few
periods to simulate a poor communications channel. BTW the report I had of
incorrect times was: "Sending a message containing 73 now generates a Start
Time log entry 2 mins before the actual start of QSO. This bug began with
WSJT-X v1.7.1 r7555."
When I looked into this I could see that there were many edge cases where QSO
start time would not reflect reality.
