I just made a patch.Let me know if this fixes the chatter.
rig split is the problem.  If you still get chatter try Fake It.
The 991 does not have targetable mode so have to make another fix to allow Rig
Split to set mode on VFOB....as long as the chatter problem is fixed now.

Richard,

Can you rule out that this is not an RF interference? Because my FT-991 runs
flawlessly with WSJTX v2.5.4 on Linux Mint 20.2.

Nothing else appears to be affected. Fldigi running PSK31, pat running ardop,
keying CW, etc.

That said, can you describe your whole cable setup please? The issue may be
obvious.

I posted here because Mike has helped me on the hamlib front on a couple of
occasions already and been able to fix it, but it keeps rearing its ugly head.
Nothing fancy, RF output hooked up to an 80m loop w/ 4:1 balun. Computer side
is connected via the single USB connected using the radio's on board sound
card. ttyUSB0 for CAT and ttyUSB1 for PTT.
Radio is in DATA-U mode. Interestingly I don't get the green circle showing
SPLIT until I change frequencies using the drop down. I would think it would
initiate split on the front end.
