While I'm here, a second (semi-related) question: has the terminfo for xterms been screwed up since sometime after Lion? First issue is when I use, say, vim, and exit, I expect to see the closed vim session still on the screen, with my zsh prompt below it. Instead, I get the screen I had before. I had that fixed (custom terminfo code) in Lion, and I used to know what it was called ... but since my first cancer (which included three brain tumors/surgeries and radiation to the brain) my memory isn't so good.
I only realised relatively recently that things like vi and less now use the “alternate” screen — at least when using Apple’s Terminal program. If you exit vi or less and press (on the small Apple keywords with only arrow keys) Shift-Command-Function-DownArrow then you’ll see what you left behind when vi or less exited. To return to the normal screen you can press Shift-Command-Function-UpArrow. You can do the same using the Terminal View menu where there are options for “Show Alternate Screen” and “Hide Alternate Screen”. Ashley.
