But remember, gvim is only one example of the problem here (just the question, btw, makes me remember the old vi vs emacs flame wars on comp.editors). I've gotten so used to so many X11 apps it's difficult suddenly not having them. Hmmmm, strange. I just thought of something that throws a big wrench into this issue: I have a script that I've used for years that basically opens xterms, some Tcl/Tk apps, and two X apps. They open from that script fine. One is xeyes (just for fun), and the other is xkbvleds. I don't do anything special opening those.... I just ran it, after killing XQuartz a bit earlier (it opened again with startx). They started fine. However, I just created another test script to run a different X11 app (rxvt), and it failed for the reasons posted in my previous post. Now I'm even more confused. Why would xeyes and xkbvleds work from a shell (/bin/sh) script, and rxvt not? Strange.....
