Two things,
One, I know of an app that applies a google maps watermark across the maps when 
used offline.  Still very usable.Is "supposed" to not violate anything.
Second, there needs to be some straight forward instructions for "morons" (such 
as myself) for creating some type of usable mapset that can be used off line 
with Xastir.  Something one doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out.
YAAC can import OSM  *.osm.bz2 files for offline use.  In fact I have a laptop 
doing that process now.  
Problem is I like a lot of the features in Xastir that YAAC lacks.  In fact 
I've made the maps in YAAC look as close to the color pattern I have setup in  
Xastir.  Plus, I like linux a lot more than MS stuff.  Xastir is native and 
YAAC is Java based.
