Just thinking aloud ;)

Given there are (and probably forever will be) people who just don't get
themselves to do even the simplest settings of the XCSoar. And I think
setting the home airport isn't even the most trivial setting. The home
airport decision for them is made in the turnpoint file which may suit
only some small part of people but not all.

Now, what if I'd suggest an orthodox suggestion that home would taken
from take-off location (unless set manually)? How many people are
actually flying from another airport to home (yes, it happens, but
percentage is low). And this would work even when they go to another
airport and get airborne just to find out that home is some hundreds of
km away. And me thinks that this distance/heading to airfield is most
needed when on foreign location.

Well, this suggestion isn't at all important to me, but I have seen
people with all thumbs concerning our little gadgets, that they would
probably benefit from this :) And possibly also me, as people wouldn't
ask me to change the home airport location ;) (done that quite many
times for different software)
