As somebody already pointed out in a recent posting, most people don't get the concept of text formatting anyway, and even if they do, it ain't necessarily the commonly accepted concept, so maybe it is not any disadvantage at all NOT to have this feature available on 'production level', but only apply consistent formatting in the final stage. There is nothing worse than having a badly formatted text as a source for editing.
