Apparently I have not that much insight into the EW product line, sorry. But I suppose having XCSoar feed the GPS data to any logger would technically not be able to get FAI approval. There is simply no seal and XCSoar or any other application could easily feed simulated data of a flight that you didn't actually do.

Hi Nick,

I think we are confusing EW logger for EW Micro Recorder. As I understand it you are using the XCSoar PDA with a gps source to feed the gps data to your (older model) EW Logger?

Most people use a IGC approved flight recorder such as the EW Microrecorder to feed GPS data to your PDA.

OK so even though the GPS position info comes from XCSoar, it is
only the actual logger that needs approval?

        Hi Nic

any FAI-approved logger is okay for such a claim. It doesn't
matter if you use XCSoar connected to it or not, the EW logger
should be approved independent of that. The XCSoar software
itself however is not. XCSoar writes IGC files, but they are
only valid for the OLC and similar contests but the software
        is not an FAI-approved logger.

        Hi

I've been searching the net but I'm finding it hard to get a
definitive answer to this question so I wonder if anyone here
can help. If I use my XCSoar PDA connected to an EW logger,
would the trace from the EW be acceptable for a silver
        distance claim?

        Thanks,
        Nic
