The first two, which are getting ratre now, have a red LED display and keypad. The model D is a 165x55x35 black anodised extrusion with a tiny push button, two LEDs and a D-9 connector on one end. There are quite sa lot of model Ds around still and they are almost indestructable. All the current range, i.e. the EW microRecorders, have an internal GPS and a data out port that can supply GPS data to a PDA. > But I suppose having XCSoar feed the GPS data to any logger would > technically not be able to get FAI approval. > That depends entirely on the IGC approval conditions for the logger. AFAIK all loggers requiring a connection to an external GPS receiver are only approved when they are attached to one of the GPS receivers listed in the approval document. > There is simply no seal and XCSoar or any other application could easily > feed simulated data of a flight that you didn't actually do. > Exactly so. Though, as the ones I'm familiar with all contain a pressure sensor, you'd need to have the logger in a pressure chamber and synchronise its pressure with the GPS reading while you were making the fake trace, its not a simple job. However, I believe it has been done, possibly for a world or national record, though I don't know the details.
