When I attached my file, I asked bugzilla to attach it as a binary attachment; I was able to convince lynx to download it straight. Lynx (and needless to say IE) insisted on printing yours to my screen; so I'm not sure what I downloaded was exactly what you're testing with. The file I downloaded had some tag-names split across line breaks; once I fixed those it parsed fine. And yes, the line breaks were at column 80. I wonder whether it's possible that your editor was somehow ignoring the line breaks, or perhaps it was wrapping text down to the next line by inserting a hard line break, while it looked like a soft line break? Without seeing the original, unrendered file (and running od on it) I can't say for sure.
