Ps. Technically speaking, in OpenType, kerning moves the right sidebearing of the first glyph in a pair. Typically, it does so to the left (if the kerning value is negative). In Minion Pro, the kerning value for this pair is -181, so the right sidebearing of the У glyph is moved by 181 font units to the left. But in XeTeX, it looks more like 250 units or so.
