FYI... Having tried everything suggested, only one thign worked, which was Mark's Suggestion to downgrade to an earlier NVIDIA driver -- although this actually failed at first, cuasing some problem with insmod (I think that as part of the RPM install scripts, the NVIDIA driver attempts to replace the currently loaded kernel module with the one you are changing to, and this failed for some incomprehensible reason).
I had to shutdwon becasue I was out of battery power, and when I nexxt booted, all was fine - it seems the insmod problem was merely temporary. Detailed examination of the XFree86.log.0 file shows that: NVIDIA's latest driver apparently incorrectly reads the EDID's and surmises that the Horiz-Sync range is "30.000-65.000". NVIDIA's older drivers correctly surmise HoizSync of "30.000-100.000". I also discovered that I had been abusing the documented options - it is possible that the new driver DOES obey the "ignoreEDID" option, and so would work, but I had misunderstood the documentation - where it says "UseEdidFreqs .. boolean .. " I assumed (in the abscence of anything being said to the contrary) that this meant that seeting this boolean to a false value would NOT use EDID's. How naive of me. There is in fact an additional option (IgnoreEDID) that is also a boolean. It appears (although this is not documented in the sections describing the two options) that both options are ignored when set to anything other than true. This is not quite what I would describe as "boolean". The explanation for my own incompetence in failing to spto the second is merely that one shows up under a search for "Edid" and the other only shows up under a search for "EDID" ! Thanks very much for all the suggestions! on Sun, Jan 19, 2003 at 02:36:13PM -0800, Mark Vojkovich wrote: > On Sun, 19 Jan 2003 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > > > > > > > Regarding: Nvidia Geforce2Go: autodetects 1400x1050 LCD, then refuses to >use it "(hysnc out of range)" > > > > > > Sounds like the specs are entered incorrectly in the Section "Monitor" > > > of the XF86Config. > > > > > > > Nope.
