--> I confirm that if I start a second XXE 3.1 *with* *command-line*
*arguments*, first instance is used to open the documents and this, on
all platforms.

--> I have found that this problem is related to your proxy server after
all (we don't use proxies here at XMLmind -- except for testing).

I can reproduce exactly the behavior you describe if I use Java 1.4.1 or
Java 1.4.2 and if I declare a SOCKS proxy (This happens on Windows and
on Linux. And this happens even if I specify ``no proxy for my local
machine" using all its names and its IP addresses!).

The workarounds are simple:

* Use Options|Options, Proxies section and check "Direct connection to
the Internet".

* OR upgrade to Java 1.5 (I know you cannot do that for all your
machines; this is just for recording the workaround in this mailing list).

Conclusion: support of SOCKS proxies seems to be *very* buggy in Java
1.4. There is not much, we XMLmind, can do for that problem. Do not use
SOCKS proxies with Java 1.4 or, recommended, upgrade to Java 1.5.
