not quite sure about the release numbering here... I have java 1.4.0_01 (from Sun) installed and assumed that was what you meant.
I actually got it to run by modifying "dist" in the supplied xxe.bat file to point to my installation folder and running the bat file, so I guess I maybe need to set some environment variable or classpath? I have another problem, too: I tried to create a docbook article, using file, new, and it failed because it couldn't access the original version of the DTD (I was working on a laptop off-line). Once I tried on-line, it was OK. Surely the point is that it uses the local copy? I notice that in the delivered catalog.xml, "prefer" is set to "public". Can this be set to something else? Normally no. Make sure that you have *Java 1.4_01* or higher installed on your machine (we got a similar, though more detailed error message, when we tried to reproduce your problem.) OR just install the big distribution with bundled (private) Java runtime. PS: The product and its install have been tested on Windows NT4, on Windows 2000 and on Windows XP Home.
