Basically it's about the same as Caron does their twist. I snip the tag
carefully off the end, then find the ends and take whatever I need for the
project from one or the other. When I'm done, I reloop everything into one big
loop, put a finger at the inside of the loop on both ends, and twist each
finger's side in the opposite direction six or seven times. Then I bring the
finger ends together. Most times, the skein will naturally fall in half, when
it doesn't, I rearrange it, and it retwists itself the proper way. Then I use
the short piece with the tag still attached to tie the ends together again.
Not quite as neat as the original Caron, but it still holds up well. :)
I am told that, for a larger project when you know you'll be using a lot of a
skein, the best way to handle a Caron skein is to untwist the skein and clip
thru all the threads at both ends (it gives you an assortment of ~12 inch
lengths) I've never actually done this, because once cut, it can't be
retwisted.
