This has been a really fun thread to read...

I've been stitching for as long as I can remember. I come from a "crafty"
family. My mother and grandparents were always sewing, stitching, crocheting,
quilting or whatever craft they could learn. So I started into crafts at a
young age. As far as cross stitch, I can remember stitching - embroidery,
crewel, cross stitch from about the age of 5. Bounced from craft to craft for
years. Then when my youngest was born, cross stitching seemed to be one of
the more afordable crafts that I enjoyed. I would go to the store and buy a
yard of aida or hardanger, a stitching magazine, and floss and would go home
and stitch every project in the magazine until they were all done. I became
obsessed. Then when I went back to work a few years ago, I found that I was
going back to some of the other crafts I enjoy - crocheting, painting, a
little sewing. Now that I am back home (still working - but from home now) I
find that stitching has once again become my passion. Even my DH has come to
except it. When I taught my first class last month, he really began to
realize that my intentions with stitching were more than just a hobby. I was
thrilled last month, when he picked up a chart off the bed and asked me when
he would be seeing charts with "designed by Donna Sue" on them. I had to
laugh, as I had just started working on my first orginal design the week
before. I guess what hooked me on cross stitch, was the way I could "paint" a
picture on blank fabric. I always just smile when people look at my half
finished stitching and realize that the design is not "drawn" onto the fabric
first. That seems to be what amazes most non-stitchers the most.

Looking forward to reading more great stories...
