While the ladies make good points about avoiding reading junk e-mail by not
opening mail from strangers, you ARE being too paranoid if you think that
you're going to get a computer virus that way.
The ONLY way to get a computer virus is to download and run an attached .EXE
file. Like the Happy99.EXE that was accidentally posted to this list a few
months ago.
Personally, I make a *point* of opening junk e-mail for the sole purpose of
forwarding it to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and the abuse mailbox of the sender's e-mail
provider. I've gotten a number of spammers' accounts closed by reporting
them for spamming. My own personal little vendetta, I guess, to clean up the
web for our kids. If there's a hyperlink in the e-mail, and I have time,
I'll click on it just to see where it leads, and report them to abuse@ that
provider, too. Posting dirty pictures to a personal website (such as on
angelfire.com, AOL, xoom.com, etc.) is guaranteed to get the account owner in
serious trouble and the account closed. One particular little chickie-boo
with a porno site, I've gotten her booted for life off three different
providers by reporting her, and she just keeps sending me the exact same
e-mail every couple weeks with a new website link ... eventually she'll run
out of inexpensive places to post her perversions or one of the providers
will sue her and shut her down permanently. What can I say, I like cat and
mouse games!
