Hello,

Allow me to highlight another posting from Ian
"Hixie" Hickson - the spokesman for the WHAT WG, WAML
spec lead and Opera employee.

Ian "Hixie" Hickson claimed a while ago here on
xul-talk that Mozilla XUL is an open standard and
language and because Mozilla's code base is open
source there's no need whatsoever for any competition
or independent Mozilla XUL compatible code base or
initiatives such as the Open XUL Alliance.

Now Ian writes on the what-wg mailinglist if I may
quote:

> In http://whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/
> please address relationship to Mozilla XUL

I added a very short section that answers your
question:

| 1.6. Relationship to XUL, Avalon/XAML, and other
proprietary UI
| languages
|
| This specification is independent of the various
proprietary UI
| languages that various vendors provide.

Anyone cares to comment on Ian's new world view? Do
you think Mozilla XUL is an open standard and language
or do you think it's a proprietary "standard" and
language controlled by a single vendor?

   - Gerald

PS: I guess Ian cansomehow not bring himself to write
XML UI languages instead of UI languages.
