Our movement has over its 98 year history developed a culture, traditions and principles that strengthen it. These we pass onto each other and we develop them further as we manage the contradictions that arrive with every epoch whilst we engage in the struggle for a united, non-sexist, nonracial, democratic and prosperous South Africa.
The programme of the ANC has been very clear that the Freedom Charter guides us and we will at all times seek to implement it correctly and even choose leaders. The ANC has ral also taught us that we have checks and balances that emerge from the Constitution. In Khayelitsha, on Sunday 07 January 2010, Comrade Kgalema Motlanthe, our Deputy President in his political lecture remarked that 'Once we do not sit together studying the Constitution, the Freedom Charter and the Strategy and Tactics we will be left with nothing to do but to discuss names...'. This reminds me of the fact that unless we follow the Constitution and make it a living document instead of a referal document we run the risk of thinking that we are still on track and the Ancestors of the ANC at that time would be rolling away from us. The lessons that the DP reminded me of was just the strategic objective of our revolution, we cannot succeed in achieving this strategic goals when we want to embark on a journey that breaks the first principle objective which is unity. A united ANC, a united Alliance is the only composite structure to lead the people of South Africa to be *United.* When names become priority when we not even had a chance to go to midterm and review what we tried to put as a corrective measure it is opportunism that is only fuelled by factionalism. The ANC in its entire history has noted that division is a weakness and it rall the ied all Africans behind it banner against the scourge of racism, it has proved that only through a united ANC is our struggle progressive. Difference of opinion is healthy, debates are a necessity and there are even principles to guide that like democratic centralism. However, to pronounce on names in 2010 before even NGC is as divisive as division is. Remember the divisions that led to Polokwane and remember that an inborn problem hidden in principle, threats, statements, rumour-mongering and many more unwanted elements within our movement amounts to falsehood which amounts to factionalism the root of all political evils. Just a thought before one says Julius said...Gwede this or Mbaks this. 'The Task of the Youth League is to Learn! Learn! Learn!' that is why the emblem of the Youth League includes a book and we learn through struggle not lobbying...we can lobby for struggle but we cannot struggle for lobbying.
