Open Office is vital - it is now the only office suite which people want. I agree with Chaks - Koffice is nice, I always preferred it to OOo for speed and general overall pleasant useage. However, Koffice does not have the same degree of support for MS office which - whether we like it or not - is the "industry standard". Why, I have no idea, but thats the way life is I guess! Kat - I have commented on this abomination before ;) It drags down a system in my view, having used it on Mandriva. I disabled it because it drove me mad. Rather similar to Knemo - which had a similar effect at pointlessly eating CPU cycles. Java - doesn't bother me to be honest, although I know people do use it. Likewise flash. Not something I use and something which has been abused by advertisers all over the web. Xgl - no comment. I have not used it.
