Java is vital for several programs like Azureus and many commercial apps. Luckily it now comes packaged with openoffice. I installed it using the source method but found that I had to add the path to the profile. The issues around openoffice is the way it integrates to the entire system. Take a look at the OpenOffice spec in the Fedora project and you will see that it has the potential to become really integrated. It works fine with out all the complexity but it leads me to wonder why would fedora go through all the steps to integrate it so much if there weren't significant benefits?
Xgl is cool to look at but will require Video drivers to support 3D so if it is included it needs to be optional since a default Xgl might make it impossible to get working if the drivers were not set perefectly from the begining. Just my 2 cents.
