Bill!,

Funny what you say. I can't comment, too sleepy.

But it easily recalls a statement made by a religion prof. in one of our
classes at Columbia, by Prof. Theodore Gaster, the 13th son (!) of the Chief
Rabbi of London. The class was across the street at Barnard, in about 1975, I
think.

We were reviewing some points about Christianity, and its founding. Gaster,
who was a Jew, said:

"Paul was the Founder of Christianity; Jesus ...was its victim!"

PS I also recall him saying: "Christianity is a fine religion; but why do you
have to bring Jesus into it? Can't you let bygones be bygones?"

Damn, he could be entertaining, and challenging, but it was class of real
rigor: a course in "Language in Religion".
