Edgar, Bill would say: hell yes!
Our (humans) mental models do help us survive. In fact it is my opinion that's why we have evolved the ability to construct them. But, just to keep this forum a little exciting by nit-picking with and pushing-back on Edgar a little I'll include 2 caveats: 1. That doesn't mean they are accurate. That just means they are useful. All they need to be to be brought forward is that they are better than a random guess. 2.
