Ha; you ought to talk.  Country founded from a population of penal outcasts...

It's instead the threat and fear of becoming a social outcast, and even of 
being deprived of freedom under the Law.

Bad behavior obviously yet appeals to certain sociopaths, but their nervous 
system is not normal.

I think it's risk of becoming a social outcast that keeps most people acting 
civilly.  But some others are actually guided by true empathy, and even true 
compassion.  Maybe many.

In those awakened to Zen-Mind (No-Mind), there's the recognition of everyone 
and everything being fingers of One Hand.  And one will not cut off one's nose 
to spite one's face.  This is the truest basis for "morality", because it is 
No-Morality, born of No-Mind.

It is the *ONLY* goal of Zen practice through the millenia.

And so, I mention it here.  In our Zen Forum.
