I didn't read your original post, Jacqueline -- but it sounds like you went out
looking for trouble and found some!

I have enough trouble just making a little peace in myself, let alone trying to
save some ducks at the same time :)

It is the killing that has upset me, and the way the entire
situation was handled.

It is true that we suffer and die, but when others inflict suffering
and death out of cruelity and hatred would it not be equally wrong
to condone or ignore it ? I tried to stop it, was willing to go to
jail to stop it, and I paid for it. My tossing of decoys was
compared to a theif dropping the money at the bank doors when he saw
the cops. I was charged with theft even tho nothing was taken. I was
also charged with harassement. I was put into a diversion programme
and was to do community service. Later when the hunters put a dead
goose (killed out of season) on our family doorstep, the entire
event got brushed under the rug even tho my daughter and the
landowners daughter gave me the names of those that committed the
act.

I admit since the original event, and since the time I have joined a
sangha group I have more peace, but that doesn't mean that my family
and friends are able to obtain the same peace.

This is why I took the precepts on my own, so I can be more aware of
the anger and handle the situation differently this time without
feeding the anger.

My next step of action I thought could be to sue...maybe they will
see that my beliefs against killing animals is the same as their
beliefs of 'loving thy neighbor as thyself'. Could I not take a
stand for moral reasons to stop the hunting beside our home ?

Shouldn't I be teaching them by example ?

This takes time and proper teaching and dedication to nuture the
seed of peace in this world .

Thank you for your reply.
