The above is completely wrong-headed and incorrect. Makes me wonder -- where did you get your training? Your lack of insights into these matters is simply scandalous. The bodhisattva vow plainly states that the practitioner will abstain from attaining one's own liberation util there is even one being in any of the countelss universes left in the shackles of bondage. As a corolary, the bodhisattva engages on the path where he or she actively seeks out beings in misery and utilizes upaya (skillful means) to liberate them from suffering. (when asked what will happen to him after he dies, one Buddhist master retorted: "I'm going straight to hell!" To his startled disciples he explained that hell is where there is most suffering, and his vow to end suffering will automatically take him there) That's it in a nutshell, and it totally shreds your wimpy low-octane theory of 'standing there helplessly with a tear in my eye' to pieces.
