Does Buddhist Zen teach that there is a soul? (I suppose Christian Zen
must.) I know this is one of those 'intellectual' questions, but maybe
one worth asking while Buddhism and Zen "move west".

Either way, thanks to whoever wrote and/or forwarded the editorial.
Our papers (in Finland) carried the emotional side of the the case but
not the medical facts that were in the editorial. From the outside, it
looks like suffering all around: for Terri Schiavo, for her parents,
for her husband, for all the judges who had to give opinions, for
everyone so certain the feeding tube should or shouldn't be pulled.
It's to be hoped that there were/are moments of relief and joy as
well.
