By all means try breathing techniques, but don't call that Zazen. And yes there is a way in Zen. Isn't it interesting that these Zen Masters always manage to write books about Zen that are not bitter or nihilistic? Some might even call them Positive and Affirming. Taizan Maezumi wrote a book called "Appreciate Your Life." Guess what, it is not about degrading other people in order to achieve Satori. Who ever is teaching you guys that the rode to Enlightenment is built on the backs of the people that you talk down to is leading you in the wrong direction.
