It meant that he would not let students make the mistake of trying different 
breathing techniques and think that they were doing Zazen. I'd second the book 
discussion idea.

  That does not mean that he believed that ONLY ONE style of breathing was
  appropriate. Maybe the lady was annoying or had not taken a bath or was
  handing out leaflets for her Yoga Class?
