Hi Guillermo,

It's my understanding, that the two main schools of Zen were established in
Japan during the Kamakura Period (1185-1333) through the efforts of two
(former) Tendai monks who visited China --> Eisai (Rinzai Zen) and Dogen
(Soto Zen). However, Zen texts and practices were known well before then.
For example, Saicho (762-835) or Dengyo Daishi, the founder of the
Japanese Tendai sect, studied Ch'an (Zen) in China and incorporated
"zazen" mediation into Japanese Tendai practices. On the Korean monks you
mentioned, I'm wonderng if you are thinking about the introduction of
Buddhism into Japan? According to tradition, this took place in either 552 or
538 A.D. when the Korean monks sent by the King of Paekche brought
Buddhist scriptures and art to the Imperial Court.

Gassho,
Rodney
