Ryhorikawa, Guillermo, Kathy and Pam,

I enjoyed reading all your responses to the question: What is zen? I
appreciate that you all attempted a serious answer in this very
restrictive text-based medium and I sincerely thank you.

The reason I asked it is I've been attempting to create a definition
based solely on words and have not settled on anything satisfactory.
I'm not very optimistic that I'll be able to come up with anything
that is helpful without at the same time being misleading.

The reason I asked the question about the word-forms was not as
frivolous at it may have seemed. It was to try and determine if you
think zen is a 'state' (noun), a 'process' (verb) or some approach to
life (adjective/adverb); or some kind of combination of these.

You've all answered succintly and very well. Thanks for your insights.

Gassho...Bill!
