You can't `gain an understanding' of `Emptiness' (Buddha Nature). You can experience it. Your `analytical mind' is of no use in this area, in fact it is a hindrance. What you are expressing you want to do is the very heart of zen. My suggestion to you is to find a zen teacher and learn to sit zazen. All you need to do to experience Buddha Nature is to sit.
