When I (either as admin or other user) attempt to acknowledge alerts, or move them to history, Zenoss will modify the alert history to say "deleted by user" or "acknowledged", but the actual status of the alert is not changed- ie it still exists as a "new" alert, in its bold color.
Can you check your $ZENHOME/log/event.log? If there an error occurred when you did this, but the user interface didn't report it, it would be in this log file.
