I really ought to get back to what I do for a living, but just a note to say there's much to discuss if and when we meet. We are in complete agreement that metre is not an exact science, and I think we possibly agree on most things except [maybe] on the question of whether metrical poetry is somehow "un-Indian". Whatever Indians do, have been doing and are doing is Indian, and poets (esp. young poets) might do well to begin by exploring the ENTIRE range of poetic possibility, first of all in the language they are writing in. Joseph Brodsky might have put it more strongly, but not me.
I'm sorry that you seem to have banned yourself from the writing of poetry, dear Subba, especially in the case of such a learned and close reader such as yourself. But perhaps we can expect translations.
