As a civil servant myself I've seen times when political decisions were made which ran counter to my advice, or the advice of my boss or colleagues. But once you know all the facts you can at least understand why the politician did what he did, even if on a professional level you don't agree. But we're civil *servants* -- our job is to implement a political program, not the other way around. Ditto the military.
