Hi,
Is there any benefit to keeping a computer plugged into a live circuit as opposed to having it plugged into a power strip which is turned off when not in use? I thought I read somewhere that on the 8100 one needed to unplug the AC before inserting nubus cards because of some trickle voltage that is always present when the computer is plugged in.
Could this trickle voltage also be supplementing the battery voltage as a way to preserve pram settings and that having the computer disconnected from the mains power supply actually reduces the life of the battery?

Thanks

Seems like a "classic" symptom of a dead PRAM

it boot then quickly switching the power

Then what? I have a 7100/80 that might be doing the same thing!

If you "test" as suggested, and get a good boot,
then
the PRAM battery is dead (or accidentally installed
backwards--easy to do). New battery (or reversed in
bracket) and you should be good to go.

I was going to say; "Seems to me I changed that battery when I got the computer out of the office." But it just dawned on me that might have been about three years ago!
