Thanks again for your help and suggestions.

I have connected the PC to another receiver. The S/P DIFF TOSLINK
doesn't work on this system either, with 2 different optical cables. I
was able to make the connection with HDMI, sound and video on this newer
system.

I have tried Live CDs and the newest Ubuntu / Mint didn't work.

I also tried an older one to try the solution from the previous link,
but I couldn't install gstreamer-properties. I'll try and make a life
usb later!
