Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I just replaced my water pump, thermostat and coolant last week due to a leaking thermostat housing in my 1993 325i. Before I did all of this work, my heat was working just like it should, coming on right after the engine warmed up. But now, after I did all of that work, the heat doesn't work at idle, it only works when the RPMs are up above 1K. I have heard that this is an indication of air in the coolant system, but I guess my question is, how do I get all of the air out? Could it be anything else? I thought I made sure to have the arrow that is stamped on the thermostat pointing up. Thanks for all the help. ______________________ Jesse Chamberlain Senior Electrical Engineer Harris Corporation, RF CD ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Sep 2005 08:16:12 -0400 From: "KMS- Brett Anderson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "UUC Digest" <bmwuucdigest@uucdigest.com> Subject: Re: E36 325i cooling system questions/issues.. Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Did you bleed the cooling system after refilling? If so, take the car for a 5 minute drive, after it's warmed up, keeping the heat on full and the rpm around 4000. This should force any remaining air out of the heater core. After you've done the drive, open the bleed screw again to make sure all air is out, top off the fluid and you're done. Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I know diagnosing a noise over the internet is difficult, but my 96 328i is making a slight clattering noise that can only be heard (for the most part) when outside. My first thought is that it might be the water pump. I thought that I heard that BMW uses a plastic water pump that tends to brake apart. I don't have any cooling issues (yet?). It is definitely coming from the front of the motor. Does this sound like a water pump about to crap-out on me? If it is the water pump, how hard are they to change out. It looks to be pretty easy. Front part of motor, exhaust side, usually silver or brass colored. could be one of the fan belt idler pulleys. they can make a noise like bad bearings in rollerskates. somewhat of a light clattering sound. water pumps aren't hard after you do a few. The first time I was swearing and cussing, now it's maybe a 45 minute job. I would like to clean them up and repaint the area, but it is the textured rubbery paint and I'm not sure of the best way to proceed. Has anyone tried a product in this area that held up well AND looks essentially factory? Ideally in a spray can? My car is black in this area rather than the gray on the E36's if that matters.
