I don't duplicate your error message when I start xfig, and I get the
following:

$ appres Fig | grep version
Fig.version:    3.2.5b

That leads me to think that Fink's xfig install is probably setting
things up properly, and that the extra 'Fig' file that Brian suggested
might be the problem. A likely place would be in
/usr/X11/share/X11/app-defaults. Also, what do you get from "printenv
XAPPLRESDIR"?  I have /sw/etc/app-defaults/

If there's no extra 'Fig' lying around, then compare what you have with:

$ ls -l /sw/etc/app-defaults/Fig
-rw-r--r--  1 root  admin  22724 Jan 15 14:40 /sw/etc/app-defaults/Fig
$ file /sw/etc/app-defaults/Fig
/sw/etc/app-defaults/Fig: ASCII text

If something's amiss your 'Fig' might be rotten. In that case try "fink
reinstall xfig". Then, if that fails, try "fink rebuild xfig".

In any case, we should update to the new version.
