Whenever connecting a process control system to a company network, you
should follow the guidelines of your IT folks. If they are clueless when
it comes to process control systems (which many of them are), then you
should talk to the control system vendor to get their recommendations as
the best way to secure your system. Here at Hercules, we have a corporate
standard that any process control system that is connected to a plant
network should be behind a dedicated firewall (the Cisco PIX firewall is a
good low cost solution). This firewall will filter out prying eyes by IP
address. In addition, PC Anywhere (at least versions 9 and 10) has the
option for using PC Anywhere login or NT user login. As with any system,
if they don't have the password, they can't get in. Again your corporate
computer guidelines should say something about passwords.

We use PC Anywhere with a WP70 configured as "be a host". Thus operators
can log in from home when the plant is unattended. As far as I know, PC
Anywhere has worked okay over the last two years I've been working with
I/A.

Application is used at a water treatment facility.

I have a security concern that anyone on our corporate intranet can get
into the WP70 it if they know or accidentally find the TCP/IP address.
