I'll go back to older versions today - more info to come...

There seems to be no exact break point were the problem shows up. Below is a list of ivtv versions and kernel versions. Status "few" means that there are some minor quality problems: locally disturbed pictures, just as if only a few bytes were missing or changed in the mpeg file. This happened with both versions 0.3.3z and 0.3.4z, and it was far less often compared to 0.3.5z and 0.3.8, where all recordings had drop outs, and some recordings had gaps of up to one second.

These gaps are missing data, mplayer would not only skip forward within the video playback, but also the time index info from the status line steps forward when this happens.

It seems to me that this problem was already present in 0.3.3z, but it
became worse between 0.3.4z and 0.3.5z. And it seems not to have anything to do with the kernel version. All my kernels came from kernel.org and i did not apply any patches.
