BTW, can you post the ivtv START-END messages in the dmesg output?

if you have particularly good examples of drops and/or locally disturbed pictures then put them aside if possible. I might want to look at them later.

Done.

From your second mail:

Oh, I just thought of two other questions: what do you use to record a
program?

cat :-)

The configuration is as simple as it can be. You could start linux with init=/bin/bash and everything would still work fine. It is based on a script that looks for an available card, tunes the desired channel and starts cat.

And are you doing anything with VBI data? The easiest way to check this is to run 'ivtvctl -W -X -B' when a recording is in progress. This
reports all the currently active settings. If you can post this too?

I did not touch the default settings for vbi. This is the report, it's identical for the other card and it is the same regardless of a the recording status:
--->
VBI passthrough mode is 00000008
ioctl: IVTV_IOC_G_VBI_MODE
vbi service set = 00000000
ioctl: IVTV_IOC_G_VBI_EMBED
vbi embedded in MPEG stream: on
