Dear Colleagues, Today's strip raises a philosophical question: Should the library, analyzed as an information system, take into account the effects that books have on their readers? Or does the library duty end with the loan?

Moreover, the library does not have statistics on how many of the checked out books are actually read to their end. Patron: - Why do you keep this trash? Dewey: - Why did you check it out? Patron: - I judged it by the cover Dewey: - It is a good cover. So lots of people check it out. Patron: - I bet none of them finish it. Dewey: - That statistic is not available to me. TRADUCCIÓN Estimados colegas, En la tira de hoy se plantea una cuestión filosófica: ¿la biblioteca, analizada como sistema de información, debe tener en cuenta el efecto que tienen los libros sobre sus lectores, o su tarea termina con el préstamo? A un usuario no le ha gustado un libro que había tomado prestado. Lo había escogido por su bonita portada y eso no siempre es un buen criterio. Por otra parte la biblioteca no dispone de estadísticas sobre cuántos de los libros que se prestan se leen realmente hasta el final. Patron: - ¿Por qué se quedan con esta basura? Dewey: - ¿Por qué lo tomó prestado? Patron: - Lo juzgué por la portada. Dewey: - Es una buena portada. Por eso mucha gente lo toma prestado. Patron: - Apuesto a que nadie lo termina. Dewey: - Esa estadística no la tengo disponible.
