Unfortunately, more and more large companies are going the JAVA-AppServer
In five years, I foresee almost all large companies completely abandoning things like perl and php.
I find that companies that run a java front-end like Perl for writing database loaders and other data mungers... no one argues with the virtuoso status of Perl when it comes to data munging.
It probably will retain this and the system administration niche forever.
