There is a reason why Java is better than perl or php for some projects.

I know only Perl and I've started to learn a little PHP, but Java is
definitely better for large projects which need to cooperate tens of
programmers, because the programs made in Perl are very hard to be
maintained, especially by other programmers.

Java is definitely slower and it is much harder to create a program in Java
than in Perl or PHP, but Windows is slower than DOS and everyone loves
Windows...
