On Sahra Wagenknecht and talks with Pegida
http://www.fr-online.de/pegida/sahra-wagenknecht--mit-pegida-reden-,29337826,29630636.html - this is the first link Google search "Sahra Wagenknecht Pegida" gives.

This article says:

"Sahra Wagenknecht, Deputy Fraction Boss of DIE LINKE, is for discussions with SUPPORTERS of Pegida. Among the supporters are a load of people 'who go there because they reject the dominant politics'."

This is exactly what I said - there was a debate about how to approach some of the people who were originally mobilised by by Pegida because they were dissatisfied with the politics of the government.

The full quote is:

"The organisers of Pegida are stirring up racist resentments and and stirring people up against refugees. But there are also a load of people who go there because the reject the dominant politics, because they are appalled by precarious jobs and miserable pensions. The havge the feeling that here at last is a protest movement. Of course, we have to speak to these people and make it clear to them that that isn't simply a protest movement, but a movement that is steering the protest in exactly the wrong direction, looking for scapegoats instead of naming the guilty and the profiteers."

This in my opinion was exactly the right tactic at that time when the movement was at its height. It was not an attempt to form some sort of Red-Brown nationalist coalition. And it has largely proved possible to reduce the Pegida the movement to the racist and fascist hard core.

If anybody wants further proof that Sahra Wagenknecht's views has been grossly distorted in the original article we've been discussing, then I can provide a translation of the full interview.
