This cannot be true as there is _no_ documentation of the feature!

Please try to understand that somebody who adds new features to a program such
as Suns tar need to write documentation. If this has not been done, then the
related software is not yet ready for being included into OpenSolaris.

Sun customers who really did (well, I cannot prove this) use this feature
before, need to be aware that they did use an undocumented feature and that
there is not grant to have this feature present in the future. BTW: if we
agree that /usr/bin/tar will be renamed to /usr/bin/otar at the time when
/usr/bin/tar is made a link to star, I have no problem with this
implementation. We should also define that in order to let this happen, no
publically undocumented (as for today) feature of Sun tar needs to be
implemented by star in order to allow this to happen.

Not having equal rights will not help either.

OpenSolaris is currently in a crisis as the expected openness has not yet been
implemented. Did you notice that the content of the OpenSolaris discussions did
change this year? Did you notice that Jürgen Keil posts less frequent than
before, did you notice that the Power PC porting project is in the same kind
of problems as the one I am trying to describe here?

Sun did promise real openness but it does not yet happen, at least at the
places
where openness would be important.
