But you did! By suggesting that weight loss is purely about calorie
reduction you *are *saying that all calories are equal. It's an
implication, but it's still there. The scary bit is that the material I
mentioned earlier suggests that not only is this is just plain wrong, but
that this message itself originated from PR efforts by the US sugar cartels
to control the message. This highly persuasive idea has persisted in food
and nutrition policies since the 80s, despite mounting evidence to the
contrary.

But when you actually think about it for just a moment... it doesn't really
hold up. We've eaten animal fats since we crawled out of the ocean, but
only eaten refined sugar in anything like the volumes we eat to day for
about 150 years. Is it really fat that's killing us, or - as John Yukdkin
suggested in the 70s - is it the sugar that we relatively recently added to
our diets? And given the low fat message was promoted in the 80s - and
we've only got more obese and more diabetic since - has cutting back on fat
actually worked? And why do high-fat cultures like the Inuit not
(traditionally) get diabetes?

In That Sugar Film he swaps fat calories for sugar calories *to the same
total calorific intake* and puts on a heap of weight. It's the 'Super Size
Me' experiment, except he doesn't do it with junk food, just with normal
'healthy' low fat options (that happen to be laced with sucrose to
compensate for the lack of fat). This should cause anyone who is attempting
to pursue a low fat diet some serious pause for thought.

So by all means get yourself a sit/stand desk, but don't eat your low-fat
yogurt off it!
