I have an M 50 mm. 1.4 and an F 50 mm. 1.7. Like Godfrey said, the F 1.7 is better wide open and up to 2.8, and it is also AF and an "A" lens. The M 1.4 is better built, although I haven't had problems about the build quality of the F 1.7.
