Hey all,

I must say that posting a job vacancy on the PLUG list was a good idea. I
got quite a number of responses already. One type of inquiry I got
bothered me a bit, though -- I got some emails asking how the salary would
be. Well, to partly answer that question: it all depends on your
qualifications, how much you can already contribute, what trainings you'll
need, how much you're currently earning, and also how good you are at
negotiating when the actual job offer comes.

Now, I just like to share this advice to the people who asked these
questions and to anybody else who's planning to go job hunting: Asking
about the compensation in your first communication with potential employers
is an almost sure way to turn them off. It gives the impression that
you're only after the money and so when a higher-paying company comes
along, you'll again be raring to jump ship. While IT people staying very
very long in a company does not seem to be the norm, companies are looking
for assurances that the people they hire will stay with them for a
considerable amount of time. Employers like people who are looking to
build a career and make a difference, not just make a lot of money. =)

my two bytes worth =),

Johann
